about

“I was a country boy” has music written by Stuart Perera and is a very autobiographical song where Dave Graney sings very directly about the direction he travelled from . A direction which has informed his character and demeanour. The music is kind of latin and it swings. Perera lets loose with a blazing solo.

lyrics

I was a country boy ...... boy was I country
I was outside lookin on
everything was happening somewhere else
I could see the whole thing..............everybody
I believed everything
I believed everybody else first
I couldn’t believe myself
I thought they must know what they are doin’
who was I to enter the scene
I was a country boy ...................boy was I country
I was open to the world
I was flat
I believed everybody
I couldn’t believe myself
I was last in line
I smiled and let people into my house
I was polite
I had a background in backgrounds
all the players came out to play
I took people as they came
I let them walk all over me
then i had enough
I shrugged and threw them off
I moved and they had nothin to stand on
I let em all talk
then i smiled and walked I waited till they forgot then I made my move
I was a country boy ...................boy was I country
I hear what youre sayin ..its so compressed... you know the room
I heard my voice disappear into the air
I had to listen for so long
I was a country boy .................I liked to make it look easy
whatever i was doin
I slouched around it and looked away as I made my pass
